EHR integration services (FHIR & HL7)
Clinicians won’t adopt a tool that makes them type the same data twice. We connect healthcare applications to electronic health record systems so patient demographics, appointments, clinical data, and documents flow where they’re needed — securely.
Interoperability standards we work with
The right approach depends on the EHR, the use case, and what the health system has enabled.
- FHIR R4 REST APIs (Patient, Encounter, Observation, Appointment, and more)
- SMART on FHIR app launch and OAuth 2.0 authorization
- HL7 v2 messaging (ADT, ORM/ORU, SIU, MDM)
- CCD/C-CDA clinical documents
- Vendor-specific APIs and bulk data exports
- Interface engines and secure file exchange
EHR platforms and the vendor process
Healthcare apps commonly connect to platforms such as Epic, Oracle Health (Cerner), athenahealth, and eClinicalWorks. Each has its own developer program, app registration, sandbox, and customer-site approval steps. We plan timelines around those steps and handle the technical conversations with vendor and hospital IT teams.
Secure by necessity
Every EHR integration is PHI-bearing, so it’s built under our HIPAA engineering standards: encrypted transport, scoped access tokens, audit logs, and minimum-necessary data access.
How long does an EHR integration take?
A read-only FHIR integration with a well-documented EHR can move quickly, while bidirectional HL7 interfaces at multiple health systems take longer. The engineering is usually faster than the vendor and site approval process, so we start those steps early.
What is SMART on FHIR?
SMART on FHIR is a standard that lets third-party apps launch inside or alongside an EHR and securely access patient data using OAuth 2.0 and FHIR APIs, so clinicians don’t need a separate login.
Do you need HL7 or FHIR for our integration?
Often both. FHIR is ideal for on-demand API access and patient-facing apps; HL7 v2 remains the standard for real-time event feeds inside many hospitals. We’ll recommend based on the EHR and data you need.
